One of Santa Clarita’s oldest and most well-liked restaurants is about to double.

Dario’s, located at the corner of Newhall Avenue and Lyons Avenue, has been serving the Santa Clarita Valley for more than 20 years, and they’re preparing to start serving the east side of the SCV.

While the location at Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon Road might be new, the menu is staying put.

Julia Reyna has been serving at Dario’s in Newhall for seven years, and says the new location will have new faces, but the food that the restaurant’s many regulars keep coming back for will remain unchanged.

“They see us as family and friends,” Reyna says.

Dario’s combo dishes are mainstays, and unique plates like the zarapas – similar to an enchilada, but made with a flour tortilla – are what keeps customers coming back. Get them with the perfectly seared steak, and smother them with the sour cream and guacamole that comes with it. You won’t regret it.

But what makes Dario’s truly unique is their Colombian heritage. The restaurant’s original owners were Colombian, and though it’s changed ownership, the new owners honored the restaurant’s roots, and kept a sampling of Colombian cuisine, like the Plato Montenaro.

And did we mention the drink menu? Dario’s makes Valencia Tea, which is a local take on the Long Island Iced Tea. The secret to Dario’s delicious drinks is the Chambord, a raspberry liqueur that they add into classics creating new favorites like the Purple Cadillac, a Chambord-infused margarita.

Oh, and there’s complimentary champagne on Sundays. Come for brunch, and choose from eight different breakfast and lunch entrees, like a waffle or an omlette, and you’ll be treated to up to three complimentary champagne refills.

So whether you visit the new location, or the old, be prepared for what Dario’s is known for: great, consistent Mexican food.

Dario’s Mexican Restaurant is located at 24523 Newhall Avenue, Newhall and 27247 Camp Plenty Road, Canyon Country.
