The City of Santa Clarita does not take the most wonderful time of the year lightly. Every opportunity to enjoy warm beverages, enchanting lights and delicious treats is heartily embraced and to kick off the season, we like to start with our annual event, Light Up Main Street. Every year, this celebration exceeds expectations by being bigger, better and brighter and would you be surprised if I said this year will do the same? Old Town Newhall invites residents to come together on November 19, to usher in the holiday season at Light Up Main Street!

Prior to Light Up Main Street, from 3-6 p.m., stroll through Old Town Newhall’s boutiques and shops during the annual Sip N’ Shop. Taste the local flavors of Pulchella Winery while snagging great discounts and promos for holiday shopping. Honu Coffee, Luscious Soul, Tribute Beauty Lounge and Barn and Charm are just a few of the merchants that will be participating. This time of leisurely shopping and holiday fun always proves to be the perfect precursor to the pinnacle event of the night.

The official Light Up Main Street celebration will begin at 6 p.m. with holiday performances from local groups such as The Master’s Chorale, Hart High School Choir, Canyon Theatre Guild and more. At 7 p.m., the most anticipated event of the evening will take place. The Santa Clarita City Council will turn on the lights and Main Street will transform into a magnificent winter wonderland. Illuminated displays, thousands of twinkling lights and a 23-foot-tall Christmas tree will dazzle and amaze.

Don’t forget to capture your child’s precious moments with Santa and Mrs. Claus. And should you get hungry, you’ll find lots of tasty options at the food trucks that will be lined along Main Street and Lyons Avenue.

New elements to this year’s event include an extended closure of Main Street for the event, additional food trucks and a free shuttle from Newhall Community Center to Main Street, from 5-9 p.m. Free public parking will be offered at the Newhall Community Center, Old Town Newhall Library, the Metrolink Station and several lots on and around Main Street.

It is important for residents to be aware of road closures the day of Light Up Main Street. On Lyons Avenue, from Railroad Avenue to Walnut Street, roads will be closed from 2 p.m. to midnight. However, Walnut will remain open for thru traffic. In addition, Main Street, from Lyons Avenue to Market Street, will be closed from 4 p.m. to midnight. Market will remain open for thru traffic as well.

A special thank you to this year’s event sponsors, as they help make the event a tremendous success: Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Valencia Auto Center, Re/Max of Valencia and Snow Orthodontics.

Be sure to mark November 19 on your calendars and join us for the spectacular Light Up Main Street celebration. For more details about Light Up Main, visit OldTownNewhall.com. See you there!
