Auto shop owner Brian Slocombe likes the challenge of figuring out what’s wrong with a car.
“Figuring out noises or certain vibrations in cars is fun,” he said. “I like the challenge of trying to track down that specific issue and finding out what exactly is going on, rather than just a regular service.”
It’s even more rewarding for him when the issue has been something the customer has been struggling with for a while. And though he may need a few days to do so, he’s dedicated to figuring it out.
“That’s the fun part of it,” he said. “And, if you can fix that type of issue for a customer, I think you’ve inherited that customer for life.”
The Canyon Country resident was born and raised in the Santa Clarita Valley, and has always worked in the automotive industry.
Starting as an auto parts driver, Slocombe worked his way up the chain, selling auto parts then working on cars, until he was managing a shop.
Now, he owns and operates Halsey’s Auto Center and G & M Auto Repair, both of which are in Canyon Country, and right down the street from each other.
“Something I’ve always wanted to do was own a shop, and this just kind of fell into my lap,” he said. “It’s one of those things you can’t pass up.”
So, on Nov. 1, he made the transition from manager to owner, which he said is a whole different ball game.
“It’s challenging me more in life now, where I was kind of capped out; so I like the new challenge of it,” he said. “It’s exciting.”
For Slocombe, coming to work is fun, and he strives to have not only his employees, but also his customers feel the same way.
“I work with people more, just letting them understand their cars, explaining how their cars work,” he said. “I show them what’s wrong with their car right in front of them, so they can see it for themselves. I think they really appreciate the hands-on handling of it.”
Halsey’s Auto Center is located at 27565 Sierra Highway in Canyon Country. G & M Auto Repair is located at 27260 Camp Plenty Road in Canyon Country.
