The boys’ and girls’ lacrosse regular season ended on Wednesday, with games featuring not only playoff implications but also Foothill League title deciders.
On the boys’ side, the Saugus Centurions clinched the title with a win over West Ranch on the final day with a 15-11 win to end the season with an unbeaten record in league play.
The West Ranch girls’ lacrosse team ended the final match day with a win over the Hart Hawks but clinched the league title earlier in the season in a victory over Valencia for the program’s sixth consecutive championship.
As for the teams that made the playoffs, the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section brackets will be released on Friday with the first round of the boys’ bracket to begin on Wednesday, April 29, and the girls’ side to begin on Tuesday, April 28.
After Wednesday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:
Girls’ lacrosse
West Ranch 17, Hart 8: The Wildcats (15-1, 6-0) clinched the league title with a home win over the Hawks (6-11, 1-5) ending the season with an unbeaten record.
The Hawks finished in fourth place in the Foothill League standings and remained out of contention for an automatic playoff qualifier.
Saugus 15, Valencia 8: The Centurions (14-3, 4-2) finished short of the Foothill League title following a win over the Vikings (9-9, 1-5) but have clinched their bid into the postseason with a second-place finish.
The Centurions await the playoff brackets while the Vikings fall out of contention for an automatic qualifier but could still make the postseason with an at-large entry.
Boys’ lacrosse
Saugus 15, West Ranch 11: With a win over the Wildcats (8-7, 6-2), the Centurions (18-1, 18-0) claimed the Foothill League.
Both teams clinched their bids into the playoffs despite the result as the boys’ lacrosse Foothill League grants three automatic qualifiers.
Hart 29, Castaic 2: The Hart Hawks (9-6, 3-5) ended the regular season with a big win over the Castaic Coyotes (0-12, 0-8).
Despite the win, the Hawks finished outside the top three automatic qualifiers but have an above .500 record to participate in the playoffs.
The Hawks finished tied with the Valencia with a 3-5 Foothill League record, but the Vikings claimed the third spot to end the season.
