In a battle between last season’s co-Foothill League champions, the Hart Hawks prevailed over the Wildcats, 12-6, behind junior receiver Alexandra De La Vega’s two-touchdown performance on Thursday at West Ranch High School.
De La Vega, who recorded 118 receiving yards in the road win over West Ranch (2-5, 1-2), totaled eight receptions along with two touchdowns. On the ground, De La Vega ran for 10 yards.
Hart (7-6, 3-1) sophomore quarterback Shelbie Ratzlaff completed 15 of 28 pass attempts and tossed her two touchdowns to De La Vega in the win over West Ranch along with two interceptions.
Defensively, the Hawks ended the day with 27 total flag pulls and recorded six interceptions in Thursday’s statement win.
With the win, the Hawks improved to 3-1 in Foothill League play and will look to build upon their momentum with a home matchup at Hart High School against the visiting Saugus Centurions Tuesday with the game set to begin 6:30 p.m.
As for West Ranch, the Wildcats dropped to 1-2 in Foothill League play and hold the sixth spot in the standings.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back in Foothill League play on Tuesday at West Ranch High School against the visiting Canyon Cowboys.
Tuesday’s contest between the Cowboys and Wildcats is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
After Thursday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:
Castaic 13, Saugus 0: The Castaic Coyotes (6-3, 3-1) bounced back in Foothill League play with a road win over the Saugus Centurions (4-5, 2-3) on Thursday.
With the win, the Coyotes improved to a 3-1 record in Foothill League play. And the Coyotes are in a three-way tie for first place in the Foothill League standings with the Hart Hawks and Valencia Vikings.
The Coyotes will look to build upon their momentum in their next Foothill League matchup on Thursday at Castaic High School and host the visiting Golden Valley Grizzlies with the game set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
As for Saugus, the loss dropped the Centurions below .500 in Foothill League play as the team sits in fifth place in the standings.
The Centurions will look to bounce back on Tuesday at Hart High School in a matchup against the Hawks with the game set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Canyon 37, Golden Valley 16: Following back-to-back losses to Valencia and Castaic, the Canyon Cowboys (5-2, 2-2) responded with a road win over the Golden Valley Grizzlies (2-8, 0-4) on Thursday.
For Canyon, the win snapped a two-game losing skid and brought the Cowboys their first win in the month of September.
The Cowboys will look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday against the Wildcats at West Ranch High School with the game set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
As for Golden Valley, the loss dropped the Grizzlies to 2-8 overall, and the team remains winless in Foothill League play.
The Grizzlies will look to bounce back in Tuesday’s matchup at Golden Valley High School against the Valencia Vikings with the game scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
