Plus, scores from around the Santa Clarita Valley in girls’ volleyball

After a four-set win over Canyon, the West Ranch girls’ volleyball team followed up its performance with a straight-set sweep, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19, over the Vikings on Tuesday and recorded their 10th overall win of the season.  

With Tuesday’s win, the Wildcats (10-5, 6-0) finished the first half of Foothill League play with a 6-0 record and an 18-1 set record.  

In the win over Valencia (10-9, 3-3), the Wildcats totaled 41 kills with junior Devyn Kobe leading the team with 12. Kobe ended Tuesday’s win with a 60% kill percentage with the Wildcats averaging 13.7 kills per set en route to the victory.

The Wildcats will look to continue their winning momentum in their next Foothill League contest on Tuesday against the Castaic Coyotes with first serve set for 5 p.m.  

As for Valencia, the loss dropped the Vikings to an 10-9 overall record and 3-3 in Foothill League play. The Vikings remain tied for third in the girls’ volleyball standings.  

The Vikings will look to bounce back on Thursday at Valencia High School against the visiting Hart Hawks with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m.

After Tuesday’s games, here are scores from around the Santa Clarita Valley in girls’ volleyball.  

Saugus 3, Castaic 0: Following a five-set loss to Crescenta Valley in Saugus’ last game, the Centurions (20-6-1, 5-1) bounced back with a straight-set sweep, 25-17, 25-10, 25-15, over Castaic (13-9, 3-3) on Tuesday.  

With the win, the Coyotes recorded their 20th overall victory of the season and remained second in the girls’ volleyball Foothill League standings.  

The Centurions play again Thursday at Saugus High School in a matchup against the Cowboys with first serve set for 5 p.m.  

As for Castaic, the Coyotes dropped their fifth game in a row and will look to bounce back on Thursday with a road matchup against the Grizzlies at Golden Valley at 5 p.m.  

Canyon 3, Hart 0: After a four-set loss in the team’s last Foothill League contest, the Cowboys (12-9, 3-3) bounced back with a straight-set sweep, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, over the Hart Hawks on Tuesday.  

With the win, the Cowboys improved to a 3-3 record in Foothill League play but are in a three-way tie for third place in the girls’ volleyball standings.  

The Cowboys play again on Thursday at Saugus High School in a matchup against the Centurions with first serve set for 5 p.m.  

As for Hart, the loss dropped the Hawks to 1-5 in Foothill League play and remain in sixth in the standings.  

The Hawks will look to bounce back with a matchup against the Vikings at Valencia High School at 5 p.m. on Thursday.  

Trinity 3, SCCS 0: Following an 8-0 start in Heritage League play, the Knights (11-4, 9-0) kept up their momentum with a straight-set sweep, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18, over the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals (10-8-2, 5-4) on Tuesday. 

Trinity’s Brylee Villa led the Knights in kills with seven with Stella Nien recording five of her own. 

With the win, the Knights remained in first in the Heritage League standings with a 9-0 unbeaten record and will look to build upon their momentum in their next game against Faith Baptist Thursday at the Newhall Church of the Nazarene with first serve set for 5 p.m.  

As for the Cardinals, the team will look to bounce back with a home matchup Thursday against Desert Christian at Santa Clarita Christian School with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
