California Grocers Association Awards $3,000 to Three Local Students

California Grocers Association Foundation Scholarships are awarded annually to college students who are either employees, or dependents of employees of California Grocers Association member companies, such as Unified Grocers, Inc., Whole Foods Market, and Smart & Final.

Samantha Delgado of Stevenson Ranch, was the recipient of a $1,000 Unified Grocers, Inc. Scholarship. Delgado graduated from West Ranch High School. She will attend Arizona State University this fall and major in Marketing. Her accomplishments include graduating with honors, serving as Secretary of the Hope Initiative, and earning the Scholar Athlete Award four times. In college, she also has earned placement in the Dean’s List twice and served as a Social Media Coordinator. Her career aspiration includes working at a job in marketing.

Megan Friedman of Saugus, has been awarded a $1,000 Whole Foods Market Scholarship. Friedman graduated from Saugus High School and will attend College of the Canyons in the fall and major in Marketing. Her accomplishments include receiving the Journalism Award from The Signal newspaper, the Career Path Recognition Award, and the Golden State Seal Merit on her diploma.

Bianca Salas of Valencia has been awarded a $1,000 Smart & Final Education Foundation scholarship. Salas graduated from Valencia High School and will attend College of the Canyons in the fall and major in Nursing. Her accomplishments include being a member of the Basketball team and participating in the Sports Medicine Program. Her career aspiration include pursuing a career in nursing and fulfilling her dream of working at the UCLA Medical Center.

College scholarships are awarded on academic merit, evidence of outstanding character and leadership potential. Applicants must enroll at an accredited college or university in the United States in the fall 2016.

In 2016, The California Grocers Association Education Foundation has awarded 371 scholarships totaling a record $588,100. Since the program’s inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $4.6 million in scholarship awards.
