Valencia baseball, softball start season in CIF polls

The CIF-Southern Section released its first baseball and softball polls of the spring Monday, and one Santa Clarita Valley high school stood out. Because only one local school was represented on either list.

Valencia baseball and softball each earned places among the top 10 teams in Division 1 for their respective sport.

Viking baseball came in at No. 5 in Division 1 after advancing to the semifinals of the Easton tournament last week.

Valencia lost in the semifinal round to Harvard-Westlake of Studio City on Saturday, 6-1.

The Vikings’ lone hit came in the bottom of the seventh inning, a home run by junior Jake Biscailuz.

Chase Farrell struck out six over 5 2/3 innings, but he took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits.

Valencia (3-1) will conclude the Easton tournament today at Oaks Christian of Westlake Village at 3 p.m.

Valencia softball, No. 9 in Division 1, is off to a 3-2 start. The Vikings lost to Yucaipa, 3-2, on Friday, and will host Agoura today at 3:30 p.m.

Valencia won its first three games, at the Stu Penter Classic, by a combined score of 26-3 before Poly High of Riverside shutout the Vikings, 4-0, on Thursday as part of the tournament.
