Local author Silvia Villalobos is set to release her most recent mystery novel “The Year of Secrets” this week.
“This is my second mystery novel,” said Villalobos. “It kicks off with the mysterious death of a powerful Los Angeles lawyer and a series of disappearances.”
As a sequel to Villalobos’ first mystery novel “Stranger or Friend,” “The Year of Secrets” once again follows lawyer Zoe Sinclair, as well as L.A. Police Department Detective Jett Riker, as they each grapple with their inner demons while working to crack a case and potentially help the city’s most vulnerable residents.
“To me, nothing quite compares to the allure of a mystery novel, especially one set in Los Angeles, our stomping ground, where, as we know, the city’s shiny surface conceals countless secrets in its dark corners,” she said.
Villalobos’ love for writing started at a young age from her love of reading during story time at home. Writing became an extension to her love of reading because it allowed her to continue to daydream and to be creative. She has always been particularly interested in mystery.
“While ‘The Year of Secrets’ aims to unravel a mystery in Los Angeles, it also tries to answer the question of whether we can find harmony between trust, our best intentions, and the shadows that both exist externally and within ourselves,” she said. “In essence, the story aims to be both an entertaining mystery and a thought-provoking exploration of the complexities of trust.”
