After helping his team to a pair of clutch road victories, Alaska Anchorage junior Dillon Barrientos was recently named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball.
A 6-1 point guard and Hart High School graduate, Barrientos led the Seawolves with 15.5 points per game on 10-of-16 shooting (7-11 3FG) as UAA produced its first road sweep of Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon since 2013-14 and moved into a 4th-place tie in the GNAC standings during the week ending Feb. 25.
On Feb. 22, the College of the Canyons transfer started with 14 points (4-7 FG, 3-5 FG, 3-4 FT), five assists, two steals and just one turnover to help UAA rally from a 12-point second-half deficit to beat No. 17 SMU, 80-79. Two days later, he tied for a game-high 17 points (6-9 FG, 4-6 3FG) to propel a 72-51 win at WOU, along with five assists, three rebounds, two steals and no turnovers in 29.5 minutes.
