Wednesday night’s action of the girls’ soccer playoffs produced two thrilling matches for the Valencia Vikings and Saugus Centurions.

But neither team was able to clinch a bid into the semifinals of their respective brackets and were eliminated from the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section playoffs.

Here’s what happened in the quarterfinals:

Ayala 1, Saugus 0: After scoring five goals combined in both the first and second rounds of the Division 2 playoffs, the Saugus Centurions were scoreless in the defeat to the Ayala Bulldogs of Chino Hills.

The Bulldogs scored the game-winning goal in the first half while the Lady Centurions were unable to come back on the road.

With the loss, the Lady Centurions are eliminated from the playoffs.

Final in PKs: Crescenta Valley 5, Valencia 4: In the quarterfinals of the Division 3 playoffs, the Valencia Vikings lost in a thriller to the visiting Crescenta Valley Falcons of La Crescenta.

After neither team was able to score a goal in regulation, and both teams dueled it out in the two halves of extra time with neither able to bag the “golden goal,” where the first team to score immediately wins the game.

Following a 0-0 score by the conclusion of extra time, the Vikings and Falcons had the match settled in penalties, with Crescenta Valley edging out Valencia 5-4 for the win.

With the loss, the Lady Vikings are eliminated from the playoffs.
