Only the Valencia Vikings and Saugus Centurions represented the Santa Clarita Valley in the second-round of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section girls soccer playoffs. And after Saturday night’s games, both teams won their respective matchups and advanced to the quarterfinals, set to be held on Wednesday.
Here’s what happened in the second round of play:
Saugus 2, Temecula Valley 0: In the Division 2 playoffs, the Saugus Centurions came away with a road win over the Temecula Valley Golden Bears.
Senior Makea Leonard secured the brace with her two-goal performance in the first half over the Falcons to advance the Lady Centurions to the quarterfinals.
The Lady Centurions are set to be on the road again on Wednesday and match up against the Ayala Bulldogs of Chino Hills.
The Bulldogs, who defeated Beckman in the second round, will be a tough matchup for Saugus as Ayala’s offense tallied seven goals in the playoffs so far.
The match between the Lady Centurions and Bulldogs is set to kick off 5 p.m. at Ayala High School.
Valencia 1, La Mirada 0: In the Division 3 playoffs, the Valencia Vikings secured the lone goal in the first half to secure the road win over the La Mirada Matadores.
With the win, the Lady Vikings advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
In the quarterfinals, the Lady Vikings are set to return home on Wednesday and host the visiting Crescenta Valley Falcons of La Crescenta.
In the second round, the Falcons won in extra-time over Oxnard and will be a tough matchup for Valencia as the Crescenta Valley offense has outscored its opponents 4-0 in the two playoff games they’ve played in.
The match between the Lady Vikings and Falcons is set to kick off 5 p.m. at Valencia High School.
