Saugus High School’s theater group is scheduled to perform its spring musical “Frozen” on March 26-28 and April 2-4.
Doors open each night at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. at The Forum, on the Saugus High campus, 21900 Centurion Way.
Gina Painter, theater arts teacher and director of the musical at Saugus High, decided to tackle “Frozen” because she knew her students could handle the material.
“I knew that this material was challenging. I think that people can think that Disney is, um, I don’t want to say fluff … it’s animated and it’s for children, but the music is actually difficult and, you know, challenging to sing, and the acting,” Painter said. “And those are just sort of the voices that I had this year, you know. Last year, we did ‘Hadestown.’ It was more of a pop rock sound. And so just listening to the juniors and seniors that I had, I just knew that this would be successful.”
Painter added that the show takes about 12 weeks to rehearse, so it has been full steam ahead toward opening night. She said there are 45 students in the musical and 15 students in the technical department this year.
