After a loss at home to the Saugus Centurions on Tuesday, the West Ranch Wildcats bounced back with a 16-6 win over the visiting Valencia Vikings on Thursday and recorded their fourth Foothill League win of the season.
The Wildcats (12-3, 4-1) had fallen behind early as the Vikings (6-5, 2-2) scored two runs in the top of the first inning.
The Vikings carried a narrow 2-1 lead into the bottom of the second until the Wildcats rallied and scored four runs to take the lead.
The Wildcats extended their lead over Valencia with two runs in the third and nine runs in the fourth inning.
For West Ranch, sophomore Torrey Price ended the day 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in four runs in the win.
The Wildcats’ Naomi Stoll, who’s leading the Foothill League in batting average, had another big day at the plate for West Ranch as she went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs along with a double.
Aubrie Jensen was the biggest performer for the Vikings as she went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs driven in and a triple.
The Wildcats remain in second place in the Foothill League standings with a 4-1 record and will look to build upon their momentum in their next league contest on Thursday on the road against the Hart Hawks.
The Vikings will look to bounce back on Tuesday with a home matchup against the Canyon Cowboys.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
After Thursday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:
Saugus 5, Hart 1: The Saugus Centurions (10-5, 5-0) secured the road win over the Hart Hawks (6-8, 2-2) and recorded their fifth league win of the season.
Senior Amelia Johnson went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs for the Centurions along with a home run.
In the circle, Hawks’ sophomore Hannah Cook went the distance as she threw a complete game and allowed four earned runs while striking out eight.
The Centurions play again in their next league contest on Tuesday at Golden Valley High School against the Grizzlies while the Hawks face the Castaic Coyotes.
Both games are scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
Canyon 18, Golden Valley 4: The Canyon Cowboys (5-8, 1-3) secured their first Foothill League win of the season with a victory over the Golden Valley Grizzlies (2-10, 0-4) on Thursday.
For Canyon, senior Emily Torres had a big day at the plate as she went 4-for-4 with a homerun and six runs driven in.
As for Golden Valley, Emma Valenzuela went 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in three runs in the loss.
The Grizzlies will look to rebound on Tuesday at home for a matchup against the Saugus Centurions while the Cowboys hit the road for a matchup against the Valencia Vikings.
Both games are scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
