The Saugus Centurions, who won the Foothill League title during the regular season, were the lone team to not play in the first round after Saugus received a bye into the second round of the Division 2 championships.
But after the first round, the Centurions remain as last team in the Santa Clarita Valley after Hart, Valencia and West Ranch were defeated in the opening round of the boys’ lacrosse California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section playoffs.
After Wednesday’s games, here are scores from the first round:
Newport Harbor 8, West Ranch 3: The Wildcats, who finished as the runners-up in the Foothill League, fell in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs on the road.
With the loss, the Wildcats are eliminated from the playoffs.
Woodrow Wilson 7, Valencia 4: After a third-place finish in the Foothill League, the Vikings were placed in the Division 3 playoffs but fell in the first round on the road to the Woodrow Wilson Bruins of Long Beach.
With the loss, the Vikings are eliminated from the playoffs.
University 6, Hart 3: After a fourth-place finish in the Foothill League standings, the Hawks received an at-large entry into the postseason but fell in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs to the University Trojans of Irvine.
With the loss, the Hawks are eliminated from the playoffs.
Saugus vs. Westlake
The Centurions are the lone team remaining and will be at home for their second-round matchup in the Division 2 playoffs.
The Centurions are set to match up and host the Westlake Athletics of Westlake Village, who are coming off a first-round 10-5 win over Canyon of Anaheim on Wednesday.
The contest between the Centurions and Athletics is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Saugus High School on Friday.
