Plus, scores from around the Foothill League

After recording their 20th volleyball win of the season with a victory over the Canyon Cowboys last week, the Saugus Centurions followed up their performance with a four-set win, 19-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18, over the visiting Golden Valley Grizzlies on Tuesday.

“A win is a win, and we’ll take it, but it wasn’t pretty,” said Saugus head coach Amy Suppes. “I definitely think we could have played better, especially with our serving.”

The Centurions (21-8, 6-2) dropped the first set to the Grizzlies (4-13, 1-7) after mistakes from the Centurions’ serving.

The Grizzlies clinched the first-set win following an offensive error from the Centurions.

Although the Centurions dropped the first set, Suppes was proud to see the team bounce back and win the following three to win the overall game.

“These guys bounce back better than any of the teams I’ve seen,” she said. “We just need to figure out how to start strong, so we don’t need to bounce back.”

The Centurions improved to 6-2 in Foothill League play, having won 12 out of their last 13.

Suppes is looking for the Centurions to build upon the momentum as the team prepares for a matchup Thursday with the Valencia Vikings, who are unbeaten in league play with an 8-0 record.

“Sometimes it’s easy to get wrapped up in the wins and not take anything from it,” she said. “But I think this team has done a good job of learning even when we do well and when we win … the most important game is the next one.”

The matchup between the Vikings and Centurions is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Valencia High School.

The loss dropped the Grizzlies to 1-7 in league play and they will look to bounce back on Thursday with a road matchup against the West Ranch Wildcats at 5:30 p.m.

After Tuesday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:

The Coyotes play again on Thursday at home against the visiting Hart Hawks with first serve scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
