Valencia softball secures home win over Golden Valley

Plus, scores from around the Foothill League

After a loss to the West Ranch Wildcats, the Valencia Vikings have recorded back-to-back Foothill League wins, including an 11-5 win at home over the visiting Golden Valley Grizzlies on Thursday.  

The Vikings (8-5, 4-2) are in third place in the Foothill League softball standings, one game ahead of the fourth-place Hart Hawks.  

For Valencia, seven different Vikings scored in the game with the biggest day at the plate coming from sophomore Aubrie Jensen, who went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs along with a triple.  

The Vikings will look to build upon their momentum in their next league game on Thursday, April 16, in a road matchup against the Hart Hawks.  

The Grizzlies (2-12, 0-6) were led by Illana Watson in the loss as the junior ended the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run.  

It was the Grizzlies’ sixth league loss of the season, and the team will look to bounce back at home in the next league contest against the West Ranch Wildcats on Tuesday, April 14. 

After Thursday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League: 

West Ranch 4, Hart 2: The West Ranch Wildcats (14-5, 5-1) remained in second place in the Foothill League standings after a win over the Hart Hawks (8-10, 3-3).  

The Wildcats recorded their fifth league win of the season and will look to keep up the momentum in their next league contest on Tuesday, April 14, against the Grizzlies at Golden Valley High School.  

The Hawks dropped their third league game and remained in fourth place in the league standings. 

The Hawks return to action in league play on Tuesday, April 14, against the Cowboys at Canyon High School.  

Castaic 4, Canyon 0: The Castaic Coyotes (7-5, 2-4) secured their second Foothill League win of the season with a home victory over the Canyon Cowboys (5-12, 1-5).  

For Castaic, Tatum McAfee and Katelyn Eppenbaugh combined to tally six strikeouts over seven innings.  

With the win, the Coyotes are in fifth place in the league standings with a 2-4 record and play their next league contest Tuesday, April 14, on the road against the Saugus Centurions.  

The loss dropped the Cowboys to sixth in the league standings with a 1-5 record and they will look to rebound in their next league game on Tuesday, April 14, at home against the Hart Hawks.
