After first-round games Thursday in the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section softball playoffs, the Saugus Centurions were the lone team to advance after three other local teams were defeated Thursday.
One team — West Ranch — was to play its first-round game on Friday, a day after the other opening-round games.
After Thursday’s games, here are scores from the opening round:
Saugus 2, Brea Olinda 1: The Centurions, who entered the postseason after clinching their second-consecutive Foothill League title, were the only team to come out of Thursday’s action with a win.
In the win over Brea Olinda at home in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs, the Centurions were victorious in walk-off fashion when Savanna Smith knocked in Malia Horvat for the winning run.
The Cents were down 1-0 to Brea Olinda in the seventh inning before Nicole Specht hit a one-run homer to tie the game.
With the win, the Centurions advanced to the second round and will match up against the Vista Murrieta Broncos on the road Saturday.
The contest between the Broncos and Centurions is on Saturday at Vista Murrieta High School with first pitch scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
St. Bonaventure 11, Valencia 4: The Vikings, who faced off against the St. Bonaventure Seraphs of Ventura in the Division 4 playoffs, were defeated in the first round.
In the loss, the Vikings tallied nine hits across seven innings with the biggest day at the plate coming from Delilah Ramirez, who went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs along with a double.
With the loss, the Vikings are eliminated from the playoffs.
Burroughs 6, Hart 1: With a little over a week between games, Hart and Burroughs ended the regular season in a contest that saw the Hawks victorious over the Bears. And in the first round of the Division 4 playoffs, the Bears secured the home win in the first round and knocked the Hawks out of the postseason.
With the loss, the Hawks are eliminated from the playoffs.
Avalon 11, Santa Clarita Christian 3: The Cardinals, who entered the postseason after a third-place finish in the Heritage League, were on the road to Catalina Island for the first round in the Division 8 playoffs.
After the first round, the Avalon Lancers defeated the Cardinals at home and knocked Santa Clarita Christian out of the postseason.
