In the second round of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section softball playoffs, the Saugus Centurions and West Ranch Wildcats were the only teams to represent the Santa Clarita Valley after three local programs fell in the first round.
But after Saturday’s second-round slate, the Centurions’ and Wildcats’ season came to an end as both teams were defeated on the road.
Here are the scores from the second round:
Vista Murieta 10, Saugus 9: The Centurions, who entered the postseason after a Foothill League-winning season, came into the second round after a walk-off win over Brea Olinda in the opening round.
In the second round, the Centurions were on the road and matched up against the Vista Murrieta Broncos of Murrieta.
The Centurions were defeated, 10-9, after the Broncos walked off Saugus with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth.
With the loss, the Centurions are eliminated from the Division 2 playoffs.
San Juan Hills 6, West Ranch 0: Less than 24 hours after winning their first-round matchup, 7-6, over Trabuco Hills at home on Friday, the Wildcats were on the road for the second round for a contest against the San Juan Hills Stallions.
In the loss, the Wildcats were limited to two hits as the Stallions’ Grace Kumpel struck out 13 en route to a complete game.
