Santa Clarita is fortunate to have many dedicated individuals and professionals willing to step forward and work for our community. That commitment deserves recognition. Serving on the City Council, however, requires more than good intentions. It requires preparation, sound judgment, collaboration and the ability to deliver results.

That is why I strongly support Gloria Mercado-Fortine for Santa Clarita City Council, District 2.

I have known Gloria for more than 20 years and have witnessed her dedication firsthand. She is ready to serve and prepared to hit the ground running. Her years of public service have taught her how to navigate complex issues, manage public resources, bring people together and turn ideas into meaningful accomplishments.

During her 16 years on the William S. Hart Union High School District board, Gloria helped guide investments in schools and facilities that continue to benefit our students and families. Her leadership with the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center has supported access to essential care. As past president of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Foundation, she helped secure additional resources, equipment and support for the deputies who protect our community.

Gloria did not begin showing up because there was an election. She has been showing up and working hard for decades, alongside nonprofit organizations, businesses, community groups and countless individuals. She has positively touched thousands of lives.

The Gloria I know is not running out of anger toward our city or a desire for the spotlight. She is running because she genuinely cares. Her history demonstrates a commitment to the greater good, rooted in a lifelong love for Santa Clarita.

Her endorsements speak for themselves. The Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association, Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014, a majority of the members of the Santa Clarita City Council, business leaders and many Santa Clarita residents have expressed their support. To me, that breadth of support reflects the trust she has earned across our community.

Gloria has spent her life helping shape Santa Clarita’s history. She understands where we have come from, what makes our community special and the responsibility we share to protect its future.

As Mayor Pro Tem, I know how important it is to have colleagues who are prepared, collaborative and focused on serving residents. Gloria brings those qualities, backed by a record of real results.

I am proud to strongly support Gloria Mercado-Fortine. She has already made a lasting difference in Santa Clarita, and I believe she will bring that same dedication and effectiveness to our City Council.
