The Canyon girls’ volleyball team kept its automatic playoff bid hopes alive following a straight-set sweep, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20, over the Grizzlies and spoiled Golden Valley’s senior night on Thursday.
With the win, the Cowboys (15-11, 5-5) jumped from fifth to fourth in the girls’ volleyball Foothill League standings and remained in contention for one of the four berths the league awards for the postseason.

The Cowboys received help and jumped over the then-fourth place Coyotes following Thursday’s matches after Castaic fell in straight sets to Valencia.
Following Thursday, the Cowboys own a 5-5 Foothill League record and, should the team win out, they would advance to the postseason with an automatic berth.
The Cowboys will look to stay in contention next week with a matchup on Tuesday against the Wildcats at Canyon High School at 5 p.m.
As for Golden Valley (6-23-4, 0-11), the loss dropped the Grizzlies to 0-11 in Foothill League play and their 23rd loss overall.
The Grizzlies will look to grab their first win in league play in their final Foothill League contest on Tuesday at Valencia High School against the Vikings at 5 p.m.

After Thursday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:
Valencia 3, Castaic 0: Following a loss to Saugus in the team’s last contest, the Valencia Vikings (15-12, 6-4) completed the straight-set sweep, 25-19, 25-17, 25-23, over the Castaic Coyotes (15-12, 5-6) on Thursday.
With the win, the Vikings remained in third of the Foothill League standings with a 6-4 record and three games above .500 in overall play.
The Vikings will look to take care of business and keep themselves within playoff contention in their next Foothill League contest on Tuesday at Valencia High School against the Grizzlies at 5 p.m.
As for Castaic, the loss dropped the Coyotes to fifth in the standings and on the outside looking in for a playoff berth.
Although the loss hurts, the Coyotes still have a path to the playoffs should the team be awarded with an at-large bid due to owning an overall record above .500.
Despite the positive overall record, the Coyotes will look to clinch an automatic berth with a win on Wednesday in the team’s final Foothill League contest at Castaic High School against the Saugus Centurions with the game set to begin at 5 p.m.
