Golden Valley girls’ tennis handles Castaic at home

Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in girls’ tennis

Following back-to-back losses in the team’s last two contests, the Golden Valley Grizzlies bounced back in Foothill League tennis play on Thursday in an 18-0 home win over the visiting Castaic Coyotes.  

After Thursday’s results, the Grizzlies improved to 5-3 in Foothill League play with the win over Castaic that featured a strong showing all around.  

In singles play, Golden Valley’s Kaelyn Azarraga had an all-around effort throughout all three rounds as she swept her competition, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1.  

In doubles play, the Grizzlies’ pairing in Jada Elex and Lauren Youm led the way for the Grizzlies as they defeated their competition throughout all three rounds, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0.  

The Grizzlies own an 8-3 record in overall play and will look to continue the winning momentum on Tuesday against the Hawks at Hart High School at 3 p.m. 

As for Castaic, the loss dropped the Coyotes to 2-5 in Foothill League play. Despite Thursday’s loss, the Coyotes remain four games above .500 in the season with a 10-6 record.  

The Coyotes will look to bounce back quickly on Tuesday in a home matchup at Castaic High School and play host to the visiting Valencia Vikings with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.  

Following Thursday’s matches, here are scores from around the Foothill League:  

Valencia 14, Saugus 4: Following a loss to Chaminade in the team’s last match, the Valencia Vikings (9-4, 6-1) bounced back with a win over the Saugus Centurions (6-7, 3-6) on Thursday.  

With the win, the Vikings improved to a 6-1 record in Foothill League play and winners of the team’s last three league games.  

The Vikings will look to build upon their momentum on Tuesday at Castaic High School against the Coyotes with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.  

As for Saugus, the loss snapped the team’s four game-winning streak.  

The Centurions also dropped to below .500 on the season with a 5-6 record and are 3-6 in Foothill League play.  

The Centurions will look to bounce back on Tuesday on the road at West Ranch High School against the Wildcats with first serve set for 3 p.m.
