The following summaries were provided by team coaches and/or representatives for some of this past week’s Santa Clarita Valley prep sports action. The Signal thanks all who submitted for helping get the word out about local athletes’ achievements. In the event that both teams submit reports on the same event, the reports will be edited to combine them into one summary: 

Softball: Valencia 10, Canyon 0 

Casey Edwards shut down Canyon, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Valencia to a 10-0 victory on Thursday. 

Valencia fired up the offense in the first inning, when Maia Paragas singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. 

Valencia put up five runs in the fifth inning.  The rally was led by singles by Addison Snyder and Akina Celentano. 

Edwards got the win for Valencia. The fireballer allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking zero. 

Valencia collected 11 hits.  Snyder, Emma Seper and Celentano all managed multiple hits for Valencia. Snyder went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Valencia in hits. 

Valencia plays again Monday at home against Hart.

Girls Soccer: West Ranch 1, Yorba Linda 0 

The West Ranch girls soccer team won their first-round CIF playoff game at home Wednesday versus Yorba Linda, 1-0. The game was well-played on both sides but the Lady Wildcats broke through with a goal from Olivia Suarez right before halftime. The goal came on a set corner kick play with an assist from McKenna Lium. In the second half the West Ranch defense continued their strong play and preserved the victory. West Ranch traveled to face No. 1 seed Etiwanda on Friday for their second-round game.
