The following is a copy of a letter to L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
I received a call Thursday morning (Aug. 14), the same day my previous email to you appeared in The Signal, from your Deputy Director for North Counties Animal Control. Thank you.
He was kind and understanding. Unfortunately, his story was nothing new: We don’t have enough money due to budget cuts. We are short vets, vet techs and staff. We care deeply about all the animals.
We all know there’s lots of money in California. We’ve been told, “We’re the fourth largest economy.” Maybe someone could find some of the billions of dollars and give it the L.A. County animal shelters where it would do a lot of good. The shelters have become “high-kill” due to overpopulation and irresponsible pet owners.
I sincerely hope you will not ignore this continuing problem of euthanasia in county shelters.
