As America is approaching the second year of Donald Trump’s presidency, we have seen more and more of his administration’s dangerous side in the form of defying the justice system, political attacks, and media censorship (Jimmy Kimmel). As usual, the strongest opposition to the administration is coming from the Democratic Party. While the left’s outrage may be at times justified, it is very hypocritical, considering that many of the things they criticize the Republicans for, they themselves do and have done under Democrat-run administrations. Liberal America’s current situation really is a spectacular instance of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf.”
For example, to name a few left-wing hypocrisies:
Liberal America claims to be a bastion of free speech, a “guiding light” in the age of Trump. Did they forget how they enforced woke-wing newspeak on the rest of the country for so long? There was a time, not so long ago, when it became a measure of one’s morality to say nonsensical things like “pregnant people(?)” over “pregnant women,” “unhoused” instead of “homeless,” “undocumented workforce” instead of “illegal immigration,” and “Latinx” (which isn’t even grammatically correct in Spanish) instead of Latino or Latina. To some, this might still sound trivial until you consider that people were literally getting scolded at best and fired at worst for not correctly using the new, “inclusive” language of the day, which is basically political correctness straight out of “1984.” Where was free speech then?
Democrats claim to support the working class, but they have utterly been taken over by corporate organizations whose elitist agenda is utterly at odds with the everyday concerns of Middle America. At best, they prioritize things that no one cares about, such as fighting “cultural appropriation” (whatever that means), and at worst, their policies actively go against working-class interests. When they were in power, they increased inflation, taxes, gas prices and crime. In the meantime, they decreased the amount of jobs available for workers, including minorities, due to the “carbon footprint,” creating what has been called “Green Jim Crow.” Doesn’t sound like much of an interest in the working class to me.
Donald Trump’s (supporters) have shown disturbing amounts of antisemitism, with many making antisemitic statements. Of course, they should be rightfully condemned when these statements are made, but many of the people calling out right-wing antisemitism are often left-wingers who have their own version of antisemitism under a different name. For the past two years, marches after marches have featured anti-Israel bigotry, hate speech, and even swastikas., with synagogues and other safe spaces desecrated. But, in a cruel twist of irony, the people responsible for this hate have come right from the so-called “progressive” faction. In fact, notice how the largest pro-Palestinian marches took place under a Democratic administration, when Jihadist terrorism was considered “resistance” and being “progressive” meant praising that “resistance” in the streets. Who woulda thunk it?
Last but certainly not least, women’s rights. The traditional take on this is that the Republican Party is chock-full of sexists who wish to erode women’s rights. Well, the chauvinists can rest easy, because woke-wing “activists” have been doing just that for years. While the Republican Party has not gotten any less sexist, the Democrats have become more anti-women. Under Democrat rule, legislation was passed that destroyed single-sex spaces, and made anti-woman sentiment the law. Just think of the Lia Thomas-Riley Gaines fiasco. Notice who the Democrats have been supporting. In fact, woke extremism went so far that a veteran gay rights activist was assaulted (!) at a pride parade(!) in Vermont (!) because he said that a woman is a synonym of a female, which is literally a universal truth. Ideally, you can support human rights for as many people as possible, no matter what minority they come from, but this concept was steamrolled to make way for ideological dogma. Of course, those days have hopefully passed, but if the Democrats want to get serious about feminism, then they have got to look at their past record and own up.
I just want to clarify that I am in no way trying to justify or trivialize the authoritarian tendencies of the current Republican Party, but I am pointing out that the reason no one in Middle America is listening to the so-called “Resistance” is that they have been just as authoritarian, clueless and elitist when they were in power.
