Another game, another blowout win for the Hart Hawks on Friday night over the Castaic Coyotes to remain undefeated in the Foothill League.
Junior Matix Frithsmith scored two receiving touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns to help the Hawks trounce the Coyotes, 49-0, at Canyon High School.
Hart (6-2, 4-0) head coach Jake Goosen-Brown said that, early on, the team was playing a slower-paced, less efficient game than usual.
“I just told them to go out and do what we’re capable of doing and be the people we’re supposed to be,” Goosen-Brown said. “We started a little flat, but they came out and they started playing and executing the way we’re supposed to.”
Frithsmith put up over 100 rushing yards. “My coach puts me in the best spot with great blocks from our offensive line,” Frithsmith said. “They always pick up the right guys, read the linebackers, and handle the blitzes.”
“Football is a game where you just have to flush things. You’ve got to move to the next play,” Frithsmith said. “When I fumbled, I knew I had to come out on the next drive, forget about it, and keep the same mentality — power through each play and try to score.”
The Hawks’ offense, led by senior quarterback Jacob Paisano, started scoring on nearly every drive after a few miscues and turnovers early in the game.
Hart senior wide receiver Devin Thompson put the exclamation on the game with a 50-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter to extend the lead, 41-0.
On both sides of the ball, the Hawks were dominant, especially on defense, holding their opponent to zero points for the second time this season.
“We have a really strong defensive line with guys like Gabriel Degli and Wayman Moore, and Josh Woodson leading in sacks,” said Goosen-Brown. “That anchors our defense and frees up linebackers to make plays. Our secondary is strong, too, with Josh Wagner as a great cover corner.”
Castaic (0-7, 0-3) was down big early as the Hawks jumped out to a 28-0 lead after the first half.
Hart will travel to Canyon next week to take on the Cowboys before traveling to Valencia the following week.
The Coyotes are slated to face West Ranch next week at home.
