Since when did our “non-partisan” City Council begin to tell us who or what to vote for in state or national elections? Since some of the City Council has worked for a Republican legislator or wants to be a Republican legislator, it would hardly seem to be an impartial decision.
Proposition 50 is a direct response to a Republican power grab orchestrated by President Donald Trump and state leaders in Texas, who redrew congressional district lines to gain five more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
I agree with Carole Lutness that gerrymandering is wrong, and I wish the entire United States would be drawn up by non-partisan commissions, but everyone doesn’t play fair.
There is no guarantee how people will vote but Proposition 50 might negate the five Republican seats drawn by Texas. Prop. 50 makes sure the 2026 mid-term elections are conducted on a level playing field without an unfair advantage for Republicans.
I don’t need to be non-partisan, so I can ask you to please vote “yes” on Proposition 50! Thank you.
