I am writing in response to your recent article on the proposed development of the Smiser property. While the coverage was informative, it failed to address a critical point: The proposed plan does not conform to the city of Santa Clarita’s General Plan.

The General Plan was established to guide responsible development, protect our community’s character, and ensure transparency in land use decisions. The city’s current approach to the Smiser project appears to bypass these established policies and procedures, effectively disregarding the very framework designed to safeguard residents’ interests.

Such actions undermine public trust and raise serious questions about accountability. If the city allows this project to move forward outside the boundaries of its own General Plan, it sets a dangerous precedent that could open the door to future developments without proper oversight or community input.

I strongly urge The Signal to continue investigating and reporting on this issue, and to hold city officials accountable to the standards and promises outlined in the General Plan. The residents of Santa Clarita deserve transparency, consistency and a voice in the decisions that shape our city’s future.
