If the ridiculous government shutdown has shown us one thing [other than how screwed up both political parties are] it is the importance of having an emergency “nest egg” with enough money and food to live on for a month at the very least, preferably a bit more.
Yes, I know some people will say they can’t afford to do that. But look at the money they spend every month on non-essential items and activities that could be put into a savings account every month to build up that nest egg.
It’s called setting priorities and also setting examples for your children.
