Emmanuel Francois, in his response to Larry Moore (letters, Nov. 7), equated President Donald Trump with Jesus Christ. Not figuratively or metaphorically, and perhaps unwittingly, but definitely quite literally. Mr. Francois’ own words, “He didn’t bring peace, he brought division,” are pretty much lifted verbatim from the Gospel according to Matthew as Jesus describes himself to his apostles:
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.” — Matthew 10:34-36.
That’s what happens when truth confronts lies, and when those of us who follow truth confront those who follow lies, we have the division Jesus was speaking of, and Mr. Francois has the audacity to fault a mere mortal (Trump) for failing at a task that the Son of God Himself could not accomplish: uniting a diverse rabble of immature and selfish morons.
