As I was listening to some of the more “interesting” speeches and commentaries during the recent Grammy Awards ceremony … ICE this, aliens that, ya-da, ya-da, ya-da … I was absolutely floored by the sheer ignorance that was displayed by one Billie Eilish.
To wit, “No one is illegal on stolen land.” Now, this is from a person who has never actually attended school, mind you. She was home schooled by her mom until the age of 15 when she quit to pursue her fabulous musical career. So, no real surprises on the relative ignorance, but just as a statement to make to anyone anywhere … Wow!
Ms. Eilish is obviously ignorant of the fact that the land we’re standing on was NOT stolen. It was not taken from anyone while they weren’t looking. It was won in a series of battles and wars that spanned hundreds of years, and stuff like that has happened over the entire course of human history on every continent on this planet.
Good Lord, what am I thinking, trying to educate people who aren’t interested in actually “knowing” anything? Shame on me for that, so please, go back to whatever it was you were “feeling.”
But as for people like Ms. Eilish, as Mark Twain said, it would be “better to remain silent and be ‘thought’ a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”
