The column (Dec. 12) by Christine Flowers left me wondering who would win a vanity contest if it was between me and her. I think it would be a photo finish. But all of the self-advertising aside, Ms. Flowers said something that I felt in my heart. She said, “I think it’s important to let people know where you stand on any given issue, so they can make their own decision to either bring you into their fold, or to employ the 10-foot pole rule.”
My follow-up to that would be to the effect of who would want to be part of anyone else’s “fold”? I find such “intimacy” suffocating. Ten-foot poles for everyone! Ms. Flowers closes with, “I no longer care if people agree with me.” It took her 64 years to figure that out … the secret to enjoying life. Well, good for you, Ms. Flowers, you have arrived!
