It was with great sadness that I learned of the loss of Rick Patterson. He was a stalwart for the rights of many in this community, especially the older adult population.
I was fortunate to appoint him to the ethics committee at our local hospital, where the administration attempted to “pull the plug” on senior patients who did not have an advance directive. At a meeting, he identified the legal loophole the administration sought to use, and a bill was introduced in 2022, Assembly Bill 2338, and signed by the governor, patching this threat.
Rick Patterson’s contributions to the Santa Clarita community will always be remembered and etched in stone, as he protected the vulnerable he served.
