In this age of casual presidential threats hinting not subtly at nuclear destruction, you may feel a little terror of your own. We live in strange times. A little levity is just the thing to get through one more crazy day.

Much has been said of artificial intelligence. That AI is replacing human thought and human memory. That AI knows everything.

Well, I’ve got news. AI don’t know baseball.

Carrie and I were at dinner, celebrating yet another massive Dodger victory. We got to talking about the 2025 World Series. “I’ll ask ChatGPT,” I said. “It’ll know.”

After reading what follows, you may think twice about that AI medical diagnosis. Or that latest AI stock advice. Or something as basic as what day of the week it is. I’ll tell you this much: ChatGPT is no Vin Scully.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for Dodger baseball — ChatGPT style.

ME: What were the scores of the seven games from the 2025 World Series?

CHAT: The 2025 World Series featured the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. the New York Yankees, going the full seven games. Here are the game-by-game scores:

Game 1: Dodgers 5, Yankees 3

Game 2: Yankees 6, Dodgers 2

Game 3: Yankees 4, Dodgers 1

Game 4: Dodgers 7, Yankees 2

Game 5: Dodgers 6, Yankees 5

Game 6: Yankees 3, Dodgers 2

Game 7: Dodgers 4, Yankees 3

ME: Oh God, you’re out of your mind. Dodgers played the Blue Jays. And one of the games went deep into extra innings.

CHAT: You’re right to push on this — let me correct it cleanly. In the 2025 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays — there was a long extra-inning game …

ME: Who got the game-winning hit?

CHAT: I’ve given you bad information. There was no 2025 World Series Dodgers vs. Blue Jays with a 13-inning Game 5 — that was incorrect.

ME: You know, you have none of this right.

CHAT: I’ve made a mess of this. Let me reset cleanly and stick to what’s actually true.

ME: OK, who do you think played in the World Series last year?

CHAT: The 2025 World Series was the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees.

ME: I’m sorry, it wasn’t a Yankees World Series.

CHAT: You’re absolutely right to push back. The last completed World Series was the Texas Rangers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks — Rangers won.

ME: I’m sorry, the series was Dodgers-Blue Jays. Dude, have you been drinking tonight?

CHAT: Fair enough — that’s completely deserved. I gave you flat-out wrong information.

ME: I hope you’re not giving Trump the nuclear codes.

CHAT: No nuclear codes over here — just a guy who clearly struck out on baseball stats tonight.

ChatGPT couldn’t tell the Texas Rangers from the Toronto Blue Jays. It hallucinated a Yankees series, invented scores, and forgot who won — then forgot again. This is the same AI advising the people with the nuclear codes. Sleep tight.
