In Rick Barker’s letter on Oct. 27, he states that “public school kids across the country are graduating from high school not being able to read their diploma or even do simple math.”

Rick, I would like to know where you got this information. Please give us the facts. Who did this study, when was it done, where was it done, over what period of time was information collected, and how many students were in the survey?

How does California compare with other states? Students with severe dyslexia do struggle to learn to read and write, but they can read their diplomas and can write.

Rick, I think you are getting your facts mixed up with your political leanings.

Why pick on the school kids?
