As I read the article (about Bouquet Canyon Road) in Sunday’ paper (July 26), I found myself asking, “Where is our City Council that use to have some guts?” What are they doing about the road closure that is putting more strain on local businesses than the COVID-19 virus closures did?
Was this road closure in the original contract? Did the City Council agree to it? Or was this something that just got “overlooked”!
Whatever happened, it needs to be corrected and all of those businesses need to be compensated accordingly. Lennar Corp. should have to pay each of those businesses the equivalent of all income they can prove they lost. The businesses should be able to show their income from the same time last year , or for the six months prior to the road closure.
If the corporation refuses to pay and the closure was not in the original contract, then the road should immediately be reopened 24/7, and closed to all construction until this is settled — if need be, by law enforcement supervision. If it was in the original contract, then those who approved it from our City Council should be responsible for the payments. Not from city coffers but from their personal accounts!
It is about time we held our City Council responsible for the reason they are in office — to support and protect the interests of the people.
